At the end of the 90s, the Leonardo Da Vinci, ELISE and ELUCIDATE European projects revealed that the United Kingdom and Spain were two of the European countries with the greatest loss of business turnover due to linguistic and cultural barriers. In this study, the author analyses the obstacles that make communication difficult.

For this purpose, he takes as a sample a series of small and medium-sized companies from the toy sector of the Valencian Community concerning their business transactions with the United Kingdom. Finally, he suggests a series of communication strategies in order to achieve intercultural competence, in English, with the British market.

Francisco Miguel Ivorra Pérez is a Doctor in English Philology from the University of Alicante, as well as a professor and researcher at the Department of English Philology at the same university. Currently, his research line focuses on the study of intercultural pragmatics and English for academic and professional purposes.
